High Speed Light Inspection
The Light Tester is designed to be an integral part of a Belvac's Necker System that performs several important operations in the process of forming a 2-piece can.
The Light Tester utilizes light detection technology provided by a proven SENCON electrical system. The system has been tailored specifically to the Belvac Necker System and inspects containers for pinhole leaks, cracks or split flanges. The Light Tester inspection is applied after the cans have been processed through necking, flanging, reforming, and reprofiling stages without the need for additional trackwork or line control modifications.
In a BV25 Series Light Tester the illumination necessary for inspection is supplied by a solid-state LED Flasher assembly. A BV25 Series Light Tester incorporates a test aperture, but it remains in the open state during normal operation. The aperture is only used when performing a cleanliness check. The Light Tester is designed to operate at speeds up to 3000 CPM. The inspection process is achieved as containers transition through the Light Tester Module. A sensor signals to the Light Tester that a can is present and times the container to the detector head. Plant supplied vacuum is fed through the polycarbonate chucks, i.e. push pads, securing the container as it merges with the rubber test seals. Low pressure air is supplied from the rear of the Light Tester module by way of the turret subplate and pressurizing the container, sealing the rubber test seal to the flange of the can to eliminate possible ambient light from escaping around the flange. Each container is tested and identified for rejection if light is detected. All Light Tester inspection turrets have a single blowoff location at the machine discharge that ejects cans into a reject bin. There is a sensor located downstream of the blowoff point to monitor rejected cans. If a can fails to reject from the line, the system will fault and the necker will stop.
CAN SIZE RANGE:
Diameter: 202 (52 mm) through 211 (66 mm) Length: 307 (80 mm) through 610 (169 mm)
SPEED: Up to 3000 CPM on 595SK model Neckers
Up to 2400 CPM on 595K model Neckers
Up to 1800 CPM on 590 model Neckers
8" to 10" Hg @ 15 SCFM
[2762 to 3453 kg/m2 @ 7 SLPS]
30 PSI (206 KPa) @ 50 SCFM (1.4 m3/min)
80 PSI @ 25 SCFM (0.7 m3/min) for blow-off
The air drop should be a one-inch minimum pipe, and branch off the plant air header; NOT TO COME OFF THE NECKER AIR MANIFOLD OR THE MACHINE SIDE OF THE MAIN AIR FILTER. A 1-1/2 GALLON SURGE TANK WILL IMPROVE THE OVERALL AIR AVAILABILITY IF PLANT RESOURCES ARE UNSTABLE.
